Anche questa volta parliamo di ricordi e di cambiamenti, di ciò che ieri c’era e oggi non c’è più o è stato modificato. Ma chi meglio dei nonni può raccontarci il passato?

Oggi, infatti, ho voluto passare la parola a colui che è nato e vissuto nel Quartiere San Paolo per ben 82 anni e ha visto nascere un quartiere: mio Nonno Mario.

D: Da ragazzino dove abitavi e qual è il ricordo più bello?

M: Ho abitato in Cascina Ponzella fino a quando mi sono sposato. Avevamo una palazzina con un cortile molto grande e una stalla, dove allevavamo conigli, galline, maiali e cavalli. Uno dei miei ricordi più belli, infatti, è quando io, insieme ai miei fratelli, correvo dietro ai maiali che scappavano e correvano per tutto il cortile. Sono stati 30 anni fantastici, trascorsi con i miei famigliari, ma avevamo vicini molto simpatici e ognuno sapeva tutto di tutti; una vita umile, insomma, trascorsa divertendosi, perché alla fine bastava poco.

D: Quindi, hai visto nascere da zero il Quartiere San Paolo?

M: Si, assolutamente. Mi ricordo che avevamo molti terreni, sparsi qua e là per il territorio dell’odierna San Paolo, e per raggiungerli andavo a cavallo. Allora non esisteva ancora via Sardegna, quindi era molto sicuro circolare con i cavalli, il traffico era minimo specie in zone come la nostra. Oggi, invece, l’opposto, abbiamo quasi paura ad uscire in bicicletta a causa delle macchine. Inoltre, per passare il tempo andavamo al campo di go-kart che si affacciava sull’odierna via Sardegna; oggi, purtroppo è tutto chiuso ed è diventato un boschetto abbandonato e recintato.

D: Che cosa ti ricordi delle prime costruzioni e definizioni del Quartiere?

M: Sicuramente, in primis, l’Esagono, i diversi campi da gioco e l’asilo. Poi hanno costruito la chiesa, ma dopo gli anni ’70. In quella zona c’erano solo i palazzi popolari, nient’altro. Infatti, noi eravamo costretti a muoverci in macchina anche solo per andare a messa, poiché c’era soltanto Santi Martiri o la chiesetta della Ponzella vicine.

D: Che effetto ti ha fatto vedere ora il quartiere così popolato e “attrezzato” di molti servizi?

M: Un effetto positivo, poiché sicuramente ora le famiglie hanno tutto, rispetto ai nostri tempi dove non c’era nulla. Solo il fatto di avere molte scuole, supermercati e bar nei dintorni ha favorito lo sviluppo della popolazione in questo Quartiere. Prima la zona di Via Liguria era totalmente piena di boschetti, oggi ci sono case su case, sebbene siano circondate ancora da campi verdi.

D: Innanzitutto vorrei ringraziarti per questa intervista concessami, ma prima di concludere, preferisci il quartiere di “Ieri” oppure di “Oggi”?

M: Sinceramente? Ieri! Bensì non fossimo tecnologici, noi vivevamo in modo umile e tutte le cicatrici che porto, causate dalle mie cadute, sono motivo di vanto, perché i bambini di oggi non si sanno divertire allo stesso modo.

D: As a kid, where you lived and what is the best memory ?

M : I lived in Cascina Ponzella until I got married . We had a villa with a very large yard and a barn , where allevavamo rabbits , chickens, pigs and horses . One of my favorite memories , in fact, when I, along with my brothers , I ran behind the pigs escaped and ran throughout the yard. 30 years have been fantastic , spent with my family , but we had very nice neighbors and everyone knew everything about everyone ; a humble life , in short , spent having fun , because in the end did not take much .

D: Do you saw the born from scratch District San Paolo?

M: Yes, absolutely. I remember we had a lot of land, scattered here and there in the territory of modern San Paolo, and to reach them I would go on horseback. Time there was no way of Sardinia, so it was very safe to drive with horses, traffic was minimal especially in areas like ours. Today, however, the opposite, we almost afraid to go out cycling because of the machines. In addition, to pass the time we went to the field go-kart that faced on today via Sardinia; Today, unfortunately, everything is closed and became an abandoned grove and fenced.

D: What do you remember of the former buildings and the Exhibition definitions?

M: Of course, first and foremost, the Hexagon, the various playgrounds and Asylum. Then they built the church, but after the ’70s. In that area there were only popular palaces, nothing else. In fact, we were forced to move in the car just to go to Mass because there was only Holy Martyrs, or the church of nearby Ponzella.

D: What effect did you see now so populated and “equipped Quarter” of many services?

M: A positive effect, for surely now the families have all, compared to our times where there was nothing. Just the fact of having many schools, supermarkets and bars in the surrounding area has favored the development of the population in this Quarter. Before the area of ​​Via Liguria was totally full of groves, there are now houses upon houses, although they are still surrounded by green fields.

D: First of all I would like to thank you for this interview granted to me, but before we conclude, do you prefer the “Yesterday” or district of “Today”?

M: Honestly? Yesterday! But we were not technological, we lived in a humble and all the scars I wear, caused by my falls, are a source of pride, because the children of today do not know how to have fun in the same way.
