Il carcere di Legnano venne costruito nel 1929, per poi seguire la sorte di molti altri edifici di Legnano, come la caserma, che vennero chiusi. Per fortuna, il carcere non venne destinato al degrado, ma due giovani ragazzi decisero di rivalutare l’edificio e destinarlo a ben altro utilizzo: un ristorante.

Nel 2011 iniziarono i lavori di ristrutturazione, mantenendo intatta l’architettura e l’arredamento tipico dei carceri. Infatti, i clienti entravano in una realtà ben diversa rispetto alla normalità. Inizialmente, i proprietari erano indecisi nell’aprire il ristorante, come affermarono in una loro vecchia intervista a Legnano News:

«Eravamo indecisi tra una destinazione come ricovero per anziani oppure un ristorante – spiega ancora Mirko Marrone che con i familiari gestisce questa operazione, alla fine abbiamo optato per la seconda soluzione. In ogni caso, e ci teniamo in particolar modo, abbiamo voluto mantenere la storicità dell’edificio. Nessun abbattimento, nessuna iniziativa demolitrice. Avremmo anche potuto decidere di creare una nuova struttura raddoppiando i metri cubi a disposizione. Invece, abbiamo optato per un lavoro di conservazione e ristrutturazione che ha lasciato inalterata la costruzione nelle sue parti più rappresentative»

All’esterno venne posizionato l’insegna, rappresentante una bilancia, in richiamo al vecchio utilizzo dell’edificio.

Successivamente, dopo la chiusura del ristorante, venne utilizzato il locale al primo piano e allestito come discoteca, chiamata “Secretroom” e al piano sottostante un nuovo ristorante chiamato “Cibus.

The Legnano prison was built in 1929, and then follow the fate of many other Legnano buildings, such as barracks, which were closed. Thankfully, the prison was not intended to degrade, but two young boys decided to reassess the building and allocate it to a very different use: a restaurant.

In 2011 work began on the restoration, keeping the architecture and furnishings typical of the prisons. In fact, customers entered a very different reality than normal. Initially, the owners were hesitant to open the restaurant, as stated in their old interview in Legnano News:

“We were trying to decide between a destination as a shelter for the elderly or a restaurant – explains Mirko Brown than with family runs this operation, in the end we opted for the latter solution. In any case, and we would like in particular, we wanted to maintain the historical authenticity of the building. No killing, no destructive initiative. We could also choose to create a new structure doubling cubic meters available. Instead, we opted for work of conservation and restoration that left unchanged the building in its most representative parts »

Outside the sign was placed, representing a scale, in reference to the old use of the building.

Subsequently, after the closure of the restaurant, it was used local on the first floor and equipped as a disco, called “Secretroom” and on the floor below a new restaurant called “Cibus.
